Strengths
- Supports both Monero and Zcash in one app
- Built-in coin swaps without leaving the wallet
- No account or identity verification required
- Open source and audited
Weaknesses
- Default remote nodes can see your IP address
- Swap services charge a spread on top of exchange rates
- Syncing Monero balances can be slow on first load
Privacy
For Monero, Cake Wallet connects to remote nodes by default. You can configure a custom node or run your own for better privacy. The app does not require KYC or account creation. Built-in swaps go through third-party services (ChangeNOW, Trocador) which may log IP addresses. For Zcash, Cake Wallet supports shielded transactions.
Notes
Cake Wallet is the go-to recommendation for most people buying Monero through the ZEC-to-XMR swap method described in our Monero buying guide. The built-in swap feature means you can receive ZEC from an exchange and convert to XMR without a separate service.
