Before creating an account, check that your chosen exchange actually serves US Virgin Islands residents. Availability is inconsistent. Because there is no local framework, you also have less consumer protection than in a typical US state. If a platform operating in the USVI fails or freezes funds, your options for recourse are limited. There is also some risk that if the USVI eventually updates its laws, it could apply them retroactively to activity already happening. A federal bill (the CLARITY Act) might have settled some of this, but it stalled in the Senate and is not expected to pass in 2026.
