Privacy coins in New York
New York is the strictest US state for crypto. It runs its own licensing system, the BitLicense, and exchanges that serve New York residents can only list coins from a state-approved list. Zcash is on that list at some BitLicense holders but not all. Monero is not on it anywhere. Buyers in New York have a much shorter list of exchanges to choose from than buyers in other US states.

If you live in New York, your options for buying privacy coins through regulated exchanges are narrow. You will not find Monero on any NY-licensed exchange. Zcash is available at some BitLicense holders but not all. Check the coin list on each platform before signing up. The BitLicense application fee is $5,000 for exchanges in 2026, which partly explains why fewer exchanges bother serving New York.
