Privacy coins in Texas

In Texas you can buy Zcash on all the major US exchanges. Monero is generally not available on regulated US platforms. Texas is one of the friendlier US states for crypto: the Texas Virtual Currency Act (passed 2021) treats crypto as a legal property interest, and in April 2026 the state launched a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve, becoming the first US state to put public money into crypto.

What to know

State-chartered bank custody for crypto is allowed under TVCA but the list of Texas-chartered banks actually offering it is still short. Most buyers keep using regular exchanges, not bank custody. Separately, in April 2026 Texas launched a state Strategic Bitcoin Reserve seeded with a $10 million appropriation, becoming the first US state to directly fund a crypto reserve. That does not affect how individuals buy crypto, but it is a meaningful signal of where the state is heading.
